My focus is book design and production for museums, galleries, and university publishers. I also design stamps for the United States Postal Service and small projects, such as annual reports and event collateral, for non-profit organizations.

I believe that research is integral to the design process, the structure should evolve from the content, and the design should be appropriate to the material at hand, not imposed on it. I believe that successful design is a collaborative effort between client and designer. I pay careful attention to detail, fine typography, and clear organization with the goal of creating engaging, beautiful, readable, and provoking objects.

I was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and spent formative years in New York City; Lynchburg, Virginia; Washington, DC; and Boston, Massachusetts.

I was graduated from Yale College (1986) with a BA in Russian History, and from Yale School of Art (1991) with an MFA in Graphic Design.

I joined the Publications Office at the National Gallery of Art in 1994 and worked there for 10 years as senior designer and 2 years as design manager. I opened my own studio in 2006.
